The Breakfast Club appoints Charlie McVeigh as chairman

The Breakfast Club has appointed Draft House founder and chairman, Charlie McVeigh as chairman.

The news of the appointment follows the restaurant reporting record sales and “positive” like-for-like growth for the year. It revealed  the first seven months of the current financial year ended with £9.7m worth of sales, increased by 5.7%.

The Breakfast Club opened its 12th cafe, The Breakfast Club on Berwick Street in Soho this Autumn and is looking to expand after having negotiations with Santander.

It added its cafes in Oxford and Brighton are “performing well” and there is a “particular focus is on finding similar locations outside London.”

Founder Arana-Morton said:  “As always, we are cautiously optimistic about the future of The Breakfast Club. We have negotiated some fairly choppy waters and I am delighted with the resilience the team and this business has shown through a tough few years for the sector.”

“We’re no longer the ‘new kid on the block’, but to still have queues across all our 12 cafes on a weekly basis, 14 years after we first opened, shows the huge affection for the brand.

He said the business is “delighted ” with the appointment of Charlie McVeigh.

McVeigh added: “ “I have been working closely with Jonathan Arana-Morton over the past six months and I’m immensely excited to join the board of what many regard as one of the strongest brands in the sector. During that time we have seen good improvements in sales and profitability.

“The group’s strong trading performance in and outside London suggests that further expansion is an option in the coming years.”
