Caffè Nero to close all sites temporarily
Caffè Nero has said all of its stores will close temporarily by the evening of Wednesday 25 March until further notice, amid the Covid-19 outbreak sweeping the UK.
The chain said that in the face of this “unprecedented challenge” it’s priority now is to “ensure the safety and wellbeing” of its baristas, customers and communities.
Caffè Nero said: “Customers can of course still buy our coffee online to make at home and we will review our delivery and take-away service when possible.
“We very much look forward to welcoming back our loyal customers when it is safe to do so.”
It comes after the Costa Coffee chain announced the closure of all of its branches amid the outbreak of the coronavirus, resulting in over 2,000 of its stores closing until further notice.
The closures, which took effect from Monday 23 March, follows the government urging all restaurants, pubs and bars to close.
The coffee chain which had initially remained open during the Covid-19 outbreak and only offered a takeaway-only service, also confirmed in a statement that it’s hospital branches will remain an exception, adding that it will continue providing free hot drinks to all NHS workers for the next two weeks.
