Cat and Wickets Pub Company acquires former Everards pub

Cat and Wickets, the pub company founded by cricketers Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney, has announced the acquisition of its second venue, The Griffin Inn in Swithland, from Everards brewery.

News of the acquisition follows recent approval for an investment from Lee Cash, the founder of Peach Pubs, to purchase The Griffin Inn as its second pub after the success of their flagship venue, The Tap and Run in Upper Broughton.

In addition, regulars of The Tap and Run will also see the group’s Friday night live music offering, ‘two for £12’ cocktails and Sunday roasts.

Members of The Tap and Run’s team have also reportedly rejoined to help get The Griffin Inn off the ground.

Gurney said: “When Everards called to say the Griffin was about to become available it was an opportunity we jumped at. As a Loughborough lad, I know the reputation this pub has, and I’m thrilled and honoured to take the baton from John and Jay after 20 years.”

Broad said: “Everards have some wonderful pubs, some superb beer and most importantly, their values as an organisation are closely aligned to ours at the Cat and Wickets Pub Company. We are very excited about working with them.”

Cash added: “I have viewed hundreds of pubs in the last 20 years and not many got me as excited as The Griffin does.

“We have done a two-and-a-half-day refurbishment to the tune of £50,000, working with Richard Brooks of Leicester-based Tanwood, who have done an incredible job in such a short space of time.”
