Tesco to open Coronation-themed pub in May
Roughly £250k of the proceeds of Tesco range of Coronation food and drink, as well as all proceeds from the pub, are being donated to youth charity The Prince’s Trust
Tesco will be opening its first-ever pub, The King in the Castle, next month for 4 and 5 May in celebration of the King’s Coronation.
The pub, which is Coronation-themed and located in Farringdon, London, aims to encourage the nation to “do good by going to the pub”.
The retailer‘s pub will also offer a Coronation-themed menu featuring products from the Tesco limited-edition Coronation food range, with highlights including ‘Camilla’s King Prawn Curry’, ‘The Prince’s Crust Pie’ and a ‘trifle-inspired’ bellini.
Bookings for the pub were made available via OpenTable yesterday (20 April), although walk-in sittings will also be available.
In addition, roughly £250k of the proceeds of Tesco range of Coronation food and drink, as well as all proceeds from the pub, are being donated to the supermarket’s long-standing charity partner, youth charity The Prince’s Trust.
Alessandra Bellini, chief customer officer at Tesco, said: “The Coronation is a historic moment and we want to help our customers celebrate it. As one of the most enduring parts of British culture, pubs have traditionally been an important part of local communities and so a pub felt like the perfect way to bring people together to mark this special occasion and enjoy delicious food.
“What’s more, we’ll donate £250,000 from the proceeds of sales of our limited-edition Coronation range in-store, along with all proceeds from the pub to The Prince’s Trust so we can all enjoy food that both tastes good and does good.”
She added: “Tesco and The Prince’s Trust have worked together for five years, so this is a wonderful way for us to highlight the incredible work that they do and help them to continue to support young people across the UK for many years to come.”
