Marston’s has announced that current chair William Rucker will step down in July. After five and a half years in the role, Rucker has informed the board of his intention to step down to focus on his other increased business commitments, which include being the chair designate of the British Land Company from 9 July 2024.

Drinks sales in the UK dropped 2% in the week ended 2 March compared to the same period last year, according to data from CGA. This follows a 5% drop over the previous seven days, and three weeks of flat or marginal growth before that. 

Azzurri Group has achieved a reduction in carbon emissions, both in absolute terms and intensity reduction of 9.7% (tCO2e/ £1m turnover). Along with a strong financial performance and the opening of additional restaurants, the group’s reduction in absolute emissions was primarily driven by strategic developments in the supply chain. Meanwhile, Azzurri’s circular food waste initiative has continued to a “significant” improvement in waste management. 

Greene King has announced a two-year partnership with the Eden Project Communities as it launches its new “Closer Communities” programme reaching 1,600 managed pubs across the UK. The programme aims to help reduce loneliness and social isolation by providing opportunities for people to come together and connect.
