Today’s news in brief – 05/06/24

UKH has called for pragmatic migration plans that meet the needs of the hospitality industry, following Keir Starmer’s comment on Sunday (2 June) that “a future Labour government will bring down net migration”. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, if re-elected, the Conservative party would reduce the number of visas available to migrants each year. 

The Savoy will be closing bookings for the Thames Foyer ahead of a planned refurbishment from Thursday 22 August. The hotel will reopen a new food and beverage concept in November this year. 

Chopstix has opened its third roadside location this year in partnership with Welcome Break at Gretna Green Services a74 (M). This comes as the group aims to strengthen its presence at travel hubs, as they have already proven highly effective at driving revenues and supporting brand awareness.

Chef Tom Brown will be closing Cornerstone in Hackney after six years of trading. Citing the high running costs of a tasting menu concept, and changing tastes in diners’ preferences, Brown feels “now his energy is best directed” to his newest opening, Pearly Queen, in Shoreditch this November.
