Built in 1911, the bakery’s new 1,900 sq ft home was once the place of business for surveyor, civil engineer and architect John Lamb and remained as offices for architects until it became Ashbourne Cafe in the mid-20th-Century.

From the 1980s onwards it has housed a travel agent, a hairdresser, and most recently, a Jack Wills clothing store.

Cornish Bakery will retain the existing exterior of the property to “fully embrace the heritage and history of the building and the surrounding Old Market Square conservation area”.

Steve Grocutt, founder and owner of Cornish Bakery, said: “We are delighted to open our newest Cornish Bakery in Nottingham. This is a strong East Midlands destination with a robust retail landscape and a thriving ‘high street’.

“We believe a bakery should be part of the community so our new team will be actively seeking opportunities to work with local organisations in the area including a designated charity partner which our bakery manager will select in due course.”

He added: “I am confident our new Cornish Bakery will be the premium space and experience for both residents in, and visitors to, the city of Nottingham. Bakery is the new coffee shop, and we are at the forefront of this.  We’re looking forward to welcoming all into our beautiful newest bakery.”
