The industry saw its first quarter-on-quarter growth in outlets in two years. It comes as a 0.5% rise in the number of licensed premises between March and June of this year has resulted in 462 net new openings, or five per day. The latest Hospitality Market Monitor has highlighted “particularly” positive developments in the casual dining sector. 

Alcohol consumption has declined by 23% in the UK, resulting in a growing appetite for soft drink options. Among the 18 to 24-year-old demographic, almost a third (30%) reported drinking less than they did a year ago, with 13% completely abstaining from alcohol. However, this reduction in alcohol intake has not negatively affected their engagement with the On Premise sector.

The Victoria Oxshott has appointed Daniel Lee as its new executive chef. Lee joins the Surrey-based gastropub with a wealth of experience, having held senior roles at Seasons Kitchen and Farm Shop, Warbrook House Hotel and Pennyhill Park Hotel. Lee has so far collaborated with the wider team on a new bar menu.
