Greene King’s The Railway to reopen following £1m refurb

The investment has been designed to transform both the exterior and interior of the pub in order to elevate it to a flagship site within the Green King’s pub brand

London pub the Railway in Liverpool Street is set to reopen next week following a £1m investment from owner Greene King

The investment has been designed to transform both the exterior and interior of the pub in order to elevate it to a flagship site within the Greene King’s pub brand.

Accessibility throughout the pub has been redesigned to improve customer flow and an accessible toilet has been added. The two ground floor bars have been opened up and will now operate together all the time, with the bar on the first floor being renamed as “the office” featuring new TVs and two digital darts lanes.

In addition, the exterior has been completely revamped, with an improved outdoor space, new seating, a new entrance leading to the upstairs bar and new Greene King pubs branding.

The pub has foundations dating back to 1736 and was originally called the Cow House before being renamed the Railway after the invention of railways in 1804.

Zoe Bowley, managing director for Greene King pubs, said: “The Railway is an important part of our Green King pubs brand and over the years has become one of the go-to sites in the local area for those travelling in and out of Liverpool St station.

“This major investment will help to reaffirm the pub’s position on Liverpool St, where it stands proudly at the forefront of City’s hustle and bustle, retaining nods to its rich history and transforming for the modern-day guest – whether they’re visiting for breakfast, business meetings, kerb-side drinks or to watch live sports.”
