Third London restaurant in two months closes with extraction issues

Soho restaurant Flavour Bastard has announced it is closing for a short while to faults with its air-conditioning equipment.

The restaurant had already been closed since 6 August due to refurbishment, and it is expected to be closed for around three weeks.

The closure comes just a month after Yotam Ottolenghi’s new Rovi restaurant closed with the same issue, and just weeks after United Chip was forced to close for good after extraction issues led to complaints from local residents.

While Rovi’s extraction equipment was a unique system designed to be as economical as possible which had to be replaced with a standard system, it is not thought that Flavour Bastard had a similar system installed.

Issues at United Chip saw the restaurant close for the “remainder of the summer” after “odour complaints from local residents”. A United Chip message told Catering Today at the time that the restaurant was “getting battered”.

Flavour Bastard founder, Vic Singh said in a statement: “We are currently shut for refit of our HVAC system in the restaurant and we shall reopen before the 3rd of September.”
