Over £320k raised for marathon death chef Matt Campbell

A total of £320,616 has been raised so far in memory of professional chef Matt Campbell who died after he collapsed during the London Marathon on 21 April.

Campbell, who competed in ‘Masterchef: The Professionals’ in December 2017, took part in the race to raise money in honour of his father who passed away in 2016.

He was racing to raise money for Cumbria-based charity Brathay Trust, when he collapsed at the 22.5 mile mark of the marathon. He was seen to by race medics but later died in hospital.

A ‘Finish For Matt’ race was organised by his friends and fellow Masterchef contestants Jamie Park and Tom Peters. Runners who took part ran the final 3.7 miles that Campbell never got to complete.

Peters said: “I wanted to do something in memory of Matt. It just seemed so fitting.”
