‘Large restaurant chain’ using ‘too small’ pint glasses

An unnamed large restaurant chain has been found to have been serving pints in glasses that were “too small” following an investigation by Birmingham City Council.

The restaurant was ordered to make a nationwide recall of the glasses after a large number were seized by investigators from Birmingham City Council who suspected patrons throughout the UK had been served short measures.

The council commissioned the investigation into the chain following a “significant complaint” from a member of the public. The investigation discovered that the ‘pint’ glasses being served by the restaurant were in fact 8.1ml too shallow. Officials were unable to name the chain or glass maker as the investigation did not result in prosecution.

“I commend the department for finding that a number of pint glasses had been made too small, and therefore short measures were being made at certain licensed premises and the way that they instituted, not just a recall from Birmingham bars, but nationally as well.”
