Caffè Nero sales rise ‘record’ 14% over Xmas period
For the first time, the group saw sales in a single week top £9m for two consecutive weeks
Caffè Nero has reported a sales rise of 14% for the five-week Christmas period in the UK, as the coffee house chain had two “record” sales weeks and its highest ever single day of trading.
It comes as Caffè Nero sites across the UK saw like-for-like sales rise 9% compared with the same period last year.
For the first time, the group saw sales in a single week top £9m for two consecutive weeks.
The coffee chain registered its highest ever single day of sales at £1.5m – the equivalent to its first full year of trading back in 1997 – on Saturday 30 November 2024.
In addition, the family-owned and operated coffee brand saw a record number of customers served in a single week during the week of 9 December.
This meant that over 2 million customers were served in the UK in a single week for the first time, which was 3.3% customer growth on the same period the previous year, with over 40% of all transactions coming via the Caffè Nero app.
Gerry Ford, founder and group CEO of Caffè Nero, said: “I’m very pleased with how we performed over the festive period. Despite a challenging macro economic climate and the impact of two very disruptive storms, we performed extremely well.
“The record number of customers who chose to visit our stores shows we are continuing to gain market share and the strength of our store teams and the impact of our festive menu made a real difference. Not only did we serve 2 million customers in the UK during the festive period, but we sold 175,000 Tiramisu Lattes and 100,000 mince pies.”
