Catering Academy rated zero by Food Standards Agency

Catering Academy, who supply catering services at Oldham College which has been rated zero by the Food Standards Agency, who say “urgent improvement is necessary”.

The college claims the facilities have been improved since inspectors issued the notice on February 19.

The Food Standards Agency said “major improvement” was required in hygienic food handling and cleanliness, and condition of facilities. The agency also said “urgent improvement” was necessary in management of food safety.

A Catering Academy spokesperson said: “Catering Academy takes its health and safety obligations and food standards very seriously.

“We have been in ongoing discussions with the client about improving the environment and much of the rating report shows that the areas of improvement are around the fabric of the building itself, which is outside of Catering Academy’s remit. Until we reach a conclusion as a result of this ongoing investigation, we do not plan to make any further comment.”

Catering Today contacted Oldham Council to request a copy of the inspectors’ report, Lauren Wood, assistant environmental health manager at Oldham council said: “I conclude this information cannot be released in accordance with the Data Protection Act, Section 30 Investigations and Proceedings by Public Authorities, as the information held within this report relates to ongoing investigative work being carried out by the Council, we consider that disclosure would negatively impact on this and any other future investigation.”

Catering Today also found that all of the company’s supplied sites are rated five with only the Oldham outlet having a rating of zero.
