Katsu Kitchen shutters permanently due to Covid-19

Katsu Kitchen, a Japanese inspired restaurant in Moseley, Birmingham, has permanently closed its doors as a result of Covid-19. 

The company, which originally started out as a pop up vendor in August 2018, posted an online statement saying “we shall be closing indefinitely from Sunday 18 October, the pandemic has finished us off.”

According to the Telegraph, the closure follows Boris Johnson’s announcement last week to enforce tighter local lockdown restrictions across the UK.

Birmingham and other parts of the midlands have now been put under tier two restrictions which enforces a ban on household mixing in pubs and restaurants, the rule of six will only apply outdoors, and hospitality venues will have to close by 10pm.

Earlier this month, Kate Nicholls chief executive of UKHospitality, said: “Being moved into Tier 2 is a curse for businesses. 

“They will be trapped in a no-man’s land of being open, but with severe restrictions that will significantly hit custom, all while unable to access the job support available in Tier 3. It is the worst of both worlds for businesses.”

The government has promised that restrictions to hospitality will be reviewed after one month, and if cases have reduced, then businesses may be allowed to resume trading.
