Deliveroo pledges free meals to NHS workers

Deliveroo has relaunched its ‘Supporting the NHS’ campaign, with a new commitment to deliver “hundreds of thousands” free, hot meals to NHS frontline staff.

Deliveroo said it “pledged” to donate hot meals to the NHS from Pizza Hut, Rosa’s Thai Cafe and other independent restaurants who will donate 500 meals per week.

During the first lockdown, in partnership with Pizza Hut and others, Deliveroo reportedly raised almost £2m and delivered 750,000 meals to NHS workers at home and at hospitals. 

Neil Manhas, GM of Pizza Hut UK, said: “At a time when Britain needs a boost and NHS workers need the nation’s support we’re delighted that both our company owned stores and several of our franchise partners are once again partnering with Deliveroo to give  pizza and other dishes to our incredible NHS heroes.”

With this new commitment, Deliveroo aims to deliver over 1 million meals to NHS staff working on the Covid-19 frontline this year.

Deliveroo started delivering to NHS Trusts in Manchester last week and will start deliveries in Birmingham, Liverpool and London this week.

The company said it is also facilitating a donation of £500,000 to NHS Trusts across the UK to support staff. 

Deliveroo is working with its partners to deliver to “vulnerable families” this Christmas. The company is reportedly working with Pret A Manger and Co-Op to deliver food to Felix Project and FareShare, who will distribute the food to food banks and community groups.

He added: “As a British business we feel duty-bound to use our network and partners to support the NHS and vulnerable groups who will be impacted by this crisis.”
