Greggs opens 2,500th shop in five-year growth plan
For the rest of 2024 alone, Greggs has plans to open between 140 and 160 new shops, with a particular focus on travel hubs and roadside locations

Greggs has announced the opening of its 2,500th shop, hitting a “significant” milestone in its estate expansion strategy.
This comes as, in 2021, the group launched its five-year growth plan, which outlined its ambition to reach over 3,000 shops across the UK in the long-term.
For the rest of 2024 alone, Greggs has plans to open between 140 and 160 new shops, with a particular focus on expanding its presence in travel hubs and roadside locations to reach more customers.
Greggs’ 2,500th shop, which is located in a petrol forecourt at Sainsbury’s Cobham, is its eighth shop with Sainsbury’s, and brings the total number of shops with supermarket partners – including Asda and Tesco – to 50.
According to the group, Greggs “is a versatile brand”, which means it can open a full range of formats in a variety of locations.
The group’s digital channels also enable it to “extend the reach of each shop even further”.
As well as continuing to build its presence on the high street, these openings also show how Greggs continues to expand into more non-traditional locations.
