Papa Johns set to close 50 ‘underperforming’ UK sites
The group reported record global sales for the final three months of 2023, hitting more than $1.3bn (£1bn) during the quarter
Papa Johns has announced that it is set to close 50 takeaways in the UK as a result of underperformance.
The pizza chain, which runs more than 450 UK sites, has stated that the sites signposted for closure had accounted for two thirds of its Q4 operating losses in the UK.
The company has been closely monitoring the performance of its UK venues and last year transferred ownership of 61 franchised sites to “more proven franchisees”.
Alongside this, the company also brought 118 venues into company ownership.
Rob Lynch, chief executive of Papa John’s International, stated that the company will continue to monitor UK performance and could close more sites.
He said in a conference call: “We are building on the progress in this important market as we continue to take strategic actions that will drive improved profitability and further strengthen our franchisee base.”
