The company is also eyeing a drive thru location in Essex amid Popeyes’ expansion plans which will see hundreds of sites open in the UK over the next decade

Popeyes UK is opening its second restaurant in Essex with the new Romford site set to open on Saturday 11 June 2022, seating up to 72 guests.

The Romford restaurant marks the brand’s third site in the country, following the announcement of a Chelmsford location and the launch of its first UK site in Stratford last year.

Popeyes UK is aiming to open hundreds of sites over the next decade across shopping malls, high streets and drive thru locations. Popeyes UK has also launched additional delivery kitchens with Deliveroo Editions in Battersea, Whitechapel and recently Maida Vale.

Additionally, earlier this month, Popeyes announced its first standalone restaurant will be opening in Chelmsford this summer. Another delivery kitchen is also due to open in Bermondsey next month, expanding its delivery reach across more areas of London.

Popeyes UK’s expansion is also expected to generate hundreds of new jobs across the nation, spanning operational roles in construction, supply chain and distribution, as well as providing a boost to the UK hospitality sector by hiring talent to prepare and serve food items.

Popeyes said that, based on Deliveroo’s customer order data, the company has been the most popular new restaurant launch on Deliveroo this year. Popeyes Stratford is now reportedly the highest taking restaurant globally out of over 3,600 restaurants since opening less than half a year ago.

With 3,600 restaurants around the world, the UK represents the 11th new market for Popeyes across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where the chain has already opened hundreds of new sites as part of its global expansion.

Tom Crowley, CEO at Popeyes UK, said: “It is our mission to get our famous Louisiana Chicken in the hands of chicken lovers across the UK so we will always try and open multiple restaurants in certain locations. Opening both Chelmsford and Romford together allows many people in Essex to experience a real taste of our Southern US Hospitality.

“We are also looking for a Drive Thru location in Essex which we hope to have news on in the coming months. We have ambitious plans for the UK and continue to work hard to bring our famous brand to more parts of the country.”
