Young’s pub £28 cauliflower steaks branded ‘properly mental’
A Young’s pub has caused anger among vegans after offering two cauliflower steaks for the same price as two Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks.
Some pubs and restaurants have begun to cash in on the Veganuary trends, however many on Twitter have been quick to point out that while a steak is expensive, a cauliflower can cost as little as 70p at most supermarkets.
Writer Jamie Klingler first shared the pub’s chalkboard displaying the offer at The Queen’s in Primrose Hill, calling the offer “properly mental”.

The offer is currently running at Young’s 148 pubs across London and the south of England, and it defended its offering saying that the alternative was of “premium quality”.
Young’s said in a statement: “Both dishes are of premium quality, the vegan dish is an alternative for those who do not eat meat. We also have other options available on our main menus.”
