Japanese concept restaurant Ukiyo debuts at The Yards

The menu focuses on Japanese hand rolls, including king crab California, yellowtail and spicy tuna, as well as a tasting menu, nigiri and sashimi, and desserts

Japanese temaki and sashimi concept Ukiyo has announced the opening of its debut restaurant at The Yards, Covent Garden. 

Located at 8 Slingsby Place in the heart of The Yards, Ukiyo’s 1,636 sq ft two-level restaurant is a “unique interpretation” of a Japanese eatery, featuring an “ultraminimal” walk-in sit-at-the-bar experience.

Chef Konstantin Tskhay will head the restaurant, having 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and an expertise in Japanese products, produce, dishes and sauces.

The menu focuses on Japanese hand rolls, including king crab California, yellowtail and spicy tuna, as well as a tasting menu, nigiri and sashimi, and desserts. An East-Asian inspired mixology menu, with a variety of cocktails, whiskeys, wines and spirits is also offered.

The restaurant caters to 16 covers, with a basement space set to open in September that will feature a dining space for a further 10-20 people. 

Ukiyo is the latest in a series of independent restaurants joining the destination, sitting alongside Pan-Asian concept Gura Gura, Burmese restaurant Lahpet, Dishoom and Le Bab. 

The team at Ukiyo said: “We are delighted to have launched our debut Ukiyo concept within The Yards, Covent Garden, and bring our Japanese hand rolls to the West End. The destination offers us the perfect location and space to open our first-ever site, and it is brilliant to have laid down roots within such an exciting dining hub in one of London’s most iconic areas.”
