New ice cream shop and wine bar to open in De Beauvoir in December
This new opening will complete a ‘unique trio of playful and otherworldly spaces’ in De Beauvoir, all located at the corner of Halliford Street and Elizabeth Avenue
An artisanal ice cream shop and wine bar called The Dreamery is set to open its doors on 5 December in De Beauvoir, London.
Following the success of their “acclaimed” Islington wine bar and restaurant, Goodbye Horses, and the adjacent coffee shop, Day Trip, co-founders Alex Young and George de Vos are now ready to introduce The Dreamery, their third venture.
This new opening will complete their vision of creating a “unique trio of playful and otherworldly spaces” in De Beauvoir, all located at the corner of Halliford Street and Elizabeth Avenue.
Jack Coggins, the head chef of Goodbye Horses, has created the ice cream menu which will change seasonally and all plates will be made in-house using the “highest” quality ingredients. The opening flavours will include options such as Christmas pudding and gingerbread, alongside classics including mint chocolate chip, croissant and custard.
Meanwhile, Goodbye Horses’ floor manager Sophie Mathieson has curated a selection of light “glou-glou” wines from small, independent producers that pair with the ice cream.
Housed in a repurposed 19th-century building, The Dreamery features a design with room for 20 guests, created in collaboration with Ltd Ltd and Studio Bates Rai.
At the centre of the space is a large stainless steel bar, which functions as both the ice cream counter and the wine bar. The walls are decorated with handcrafted cement tiles in pink and blue hues – created using a traditional German pressed cement technique – and the ceiling features a grid of timber and Japanese Unryu rice paper panels, subtly connecting the “vibe” back to their neighbouring wine bar.
In addition, the co-founders have collaborated with artist Lucy Stein, whose work draws inspiration from British folklore and mythology, to hand-paint whimsical murals throughout the space.
Regarding the upcoming opening, Young and de Vos said: “It’s Christmas, and what better time to open an ice cream shop?”
