Today’s news in brief – 02/04/25

RedCat Hospitality has reported a turnover rise of 8% to £129.8m in the year ended 31 March 2024, which was described as a transitional year for the company. In 2024, the group welcomed a fresh leadership team as CEO Richard Lewis joined RedCat to oversee a programme of stabilisation. Despite the “challenging” market conditions, the UK-wide operator of 95 pubs saw sales increase by 2% over the period, to just shy of £130m. The group attributed its solid performance to its Coaching Inn Group sites.

Sim Chickens has signed a new restaurant location in Merry Hill, which is due to officially open in May. Known for its Southern-inspired dishes, Slim Chickens will cover two floors across 5,229 sq ft and will have seating capacity for approximately 175 covers. The restaurant will strengthen Merry Hill’s roster of quick-service dining options, offering a range of hand-breaded fried chicken, including tenders and Buffalo Wings, alongside sandwiches and salads.

Fuller’s has made some changes to its board as Helen Jones has retired, having served six years as an independent non-executive director and chair of the remuneration committee. Jane Bednall has been named her successor and also serves on the audit and risk committee, nominations committee and remuneration committee, and has taken on the role of employee engagement director. Meanwhile, Robin Rowland has been appointed as chair of the remuneration committee to replace Helen Jones.

Taiwanese noodle bar Kung Fu Mama will be opening in Covent Garden on 8 April. The concept, which will be brought by Ottolenghi co-founder Noam Bar-Chang and founder of Kung Fu Mama Retail Chris Hsu, will be located on Long Acre and offer a “contemporary take” on Taiwanese flavours. There will be nine covers inside and four outside, as well as take away and delivery available locally.
