Hospitality groups saw October sales slow amid ongoing cost increases, according to the CGA RSM Hospitality Business Tracker. In light of this, concerns have been raised for trading over the crucial Christmas period, which adds to new pressures on the sector’s tax burden set out in the government’s recent budget. 

Pret A Manger has opened at Gloucester Quays. The new 1,841 sq ft eatery features seating for 85 people, Pret’s “signature” interior design with wooden accents and red tones, and will be managed by franchise partner, Dallas Holdings Limited. The opening follows the recent arrival of Subway next to The Real Greek and Bill’s at Gloucester Quays.

BM Caterers has appointed its first head of wine. Marie Phalippou will oversee the group’s wine programme and support key initiatives related to wine education, sourcing and client engagement. She will also work with the culinary team to provide wine pairings that complement BM’s hospitality menus, and host annual wine meetings.

Tropea has extended into the next door premises to add 25 more covers and double the kitchen size. Thanks to the extension, the Harborne-based Italian restaurant will open a number of walk-in tables, as well as a new bar. It has also allowed for increased kitchen space for new equipment, giving the chefs the opportunity to innovate the menu.
