Today’s news in brief – 24/02/25

Some 70% of hospitality businesses will cut jobs due to reduced rates relief from April, according to a survey by The British Beer and Pub Association, the British Institute of Innkeeping, Hospitality Ulster and UKH. The survey also revealed that 60% would cancel planned investment, 29% will reduce trading hours and 25% will have no cash reserves left – up 6% since October 2024. Additionally, 15% believe they will have to close at least one site.
Shiko Group is expecting a turnover of £9.2m for this financial year, its biggest year to date. In collaboration with its funding partner, Universal Hospitality, the north west bar and kitchen operator is forecasting an even bigger 2025/26, which is predicted to generate a turnover of £14m. The company is just six years old, having acquired its first site The Lawn Club in Manchester in 2019, with more venues in Manchester and beyond on the way.
D&D London will rebrand to ‘The Evolv Collection’ in April 2025, which will coincide with a new company logo. The hospitality group believes this is an “appropriate” time for it to evolve into a new corporate identity, stating that its new name reflects its “commitment to a forward thinking mindset for our collection of iconic venues”. The group will also replace Club D&D with “new and improved” Evolv Loyalty club, as well as a new company website.
Six by Nico has officially opened its new Bristol venue at Unit SU9, Quakers Friars Cabot Circus. The new restaurant, which is said to blend “contemporary elegance with a welcoming atmosphere”, seats up to 62 guests and has an open kitchen pass that gives diners a glimpse into the cooking behind each dish. The restaurant will also have an outdoor terrace area, offering a selection of cocktails and wines.
