Today’s news in brief – 24/03/25

Wendy’s is on track to open its 50th UK restaurant in 2025, a year that will also see it establish its presence in Scotland, Ireland and Romania for the first time. New Wendy’s restaurants will open in Blackpool, Glasgow, Grays (Lakeside), Watford, and York in the coming months, creating over 150 jobs, each with competitive salaries and benefits. Wendy’s is also investing approximately $70M (£54m) in its Build-To-Suit programme. 

Springboard has appointed Allister Richards as its new chair. He takes over from Alastair Storey, who has led the charity’s board since 2019, overseeing its growth and impact as it expanded its reach to support those entering the hospitality industry. Meanwhile, Richards has spent the last five years serving as CH&Co’s chief operating officer. Before that, he spent eight years as managing director at Gather and Gather.

Shepherd Neame has reopened The Westminster Arms after a £1.2m refurbishment. Located in very close proximity to the Houses of Parliament, the pub underwent the renovation over 10 weeks that consisted of a full external redecoration, including new signwriting and awning, as well as a new-look main bar inside and enhanced traditional wood panelling through the introduction of drinks shelves towards the front of the pub. 

Azotea has officially opened on the 12th floor of the new Hyatt hotel in Leeds. The new Latin American rooftop bar and restaurant promises to be an immersive experience, decorated with “vibrant, contemporary touches” to capture the essence of Latin American life. The design showcases the energy and experiences that define the region’s rich cultural heritage, paired with food and beverage offerings that reflect its flavours.
