Robinson Brewery reopens Hawk Inn after £1.25m refurb

Dishes include British pub classics such as Steak and Ale Pie and Sausage and Mash.

Hawk Inn in Haslington has re-opened after undergoing a refurbishment following a substantial investment of £1.25m by its pub operator, Robinson Brewery.

Jennifer Swain has taken on the lease of the newly renovated Cheshire pub, which features
“warm atmospheric” lighting, a neutral colour palette and wooden surroundings.

Most of the furniture is new to the Hawk, but has been reclaimed from elsewhere and reupholstered, with a few “statement” pieces remaining after the makeover.

Additionally, ceilings and structural wooden beams have gently been restored to their natural lighter wood colour.

During the renovation, the team discovered the building’s original timber a-frame within a modern plastered wall, which is now fully displayed. As well as the exposed timber, the pub also features a picture frame in the snug room which looks directly into the 16th-Century building’s structure, behind the plaster.

The Hawk has re-opened with a new food and drinks menu. Dishes include British pub classics such as Steak and Ale Pie and Sausage and Mash.

The Robinsons in-house designer who led the Grade II listed building’s refurbishment said: “There is so much history and charm at the Hawk Inn. During the renovation, we found some of this history buried in its walls. One of the most interesting things we found was a newspaper article dating back to 1888.

“It was in pieces, but I’m going to attempt to find a way to restore it. The main objective for the refurbishment was to form a warmer feel to the pub and to create an inviting and homely welcome. It has been a great pub to work on, where the makeover evolved as we uncovered history during our work.”
