Wetherspoon PBT jumps 73% to £73.9m

Its latest openings include the Captain Flinders near Euston Station, the Lion and the Unicorn in Waterloo Station and the Star Light at Heathrow Airport

Wetherspoon has revealed that it has posted a profit-before-tax of £73.9m for the year ended 28 July 2024, up from £42.6m in the previous year.

Alongside this, the company saw its revenues top £2bn in the period, up from £1.9bn in the same period last year.

Furthermore, the company’s like-for-like sales have risen by 7.6% and its like-for-like sales for the nine weeks ended 29 September 2024 increased by 4.9%.

The chain now operates 800 pubs, down from 879 in 2019, although chairman Tim Martin reaffirmed his belief that the business has the potential to grow to 1000 sites.

Tim Martin, chairman, said: “The company currently anticipates a reasonable outcome for the current financial year, subject to our future sales performance.”
