Wetherspoons eyeing further Irish pubs
Wetherspoons is to look for further sites in the Republic of Ireland after it said it has seen “great success” at its current five pubs in the country.
Tim Martin, Wetherspoons chairman, said he was “pleased” that three new sites in Ireland were currently under development, as work began on a new pub in Dublin. Martin said: “We have enjoyed great success with our existing five pubs in the Republic of Ireland, and are pleased that we now have three new sites in development, we will continue to look for other sites.”
As many as 75 jobs are to be created by the new €4m (£3.5m) pub on the capital’s Lower Abbey Street. The pub is to be named The Silver Penny and is set to open in May 2019, two buildings are being restored to create the new development.
The chain is also working on an €18.5m (£16.4m) 92-room hotel and pub located in the city’s Dublin 2 development. The hotel and pub, named Keavan’s Port Hotel, is set to open in summer 2019, the development will become Wetherspoons largest single investment and will create its largest hotel and pub complex.
