Abba restaurant to open at O2 Arena after defeat at Waterloo
An Abba themed restaurant led by band member Bjorn Ulvaeus is set to open at the O2 Arena.
The restaurant was originally set to open in Waterloo, however protesting residents ensured it abandoned its plans in the area. Mamma Mia! The Party, is set to open its 500-cover restaurant in “late spring” next year which will offer guests Greek food while a “spin-off” story from Mamma Mia is performed.
The restaurant will have a live band performing the songs from the film, and a seventies-style disco at the end of the night.
Ulvaeus said: “We have long admired the O2 and the huge entertainment success it has become under the ownership and management of AEG. We believe bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to the O2 will add to this already vibrant cultural destination and provide the perfect location for our exciting new show.”
John Langford GM of the O2 Arena, said: “To be hosting Mamma Mia! The Party at the O2 is a real honour. It perfectly complements the outstanding live performances, events and entertainment all available under our world-famous roof.”
Just under four months ago the restaurants plans to open in Waterloo were met by anger from Waterloo Residents Alliance, who started the ‘No Thank You For The Music’ campaign in protest. Residents felt that their peace and quiet would be disturbed by rowdy Abba fans.
