AngloThai secures Michelin Star three months after opening

Desserts include Todoli citrus sorbet, Thai tea ice cream, and rhubarb with white cardamom and coconut

AngloThai, the debut restaurant from husband-and-wife team John and Desiree Chantarasak, in partnership with MJMK Restaurants, has been awarded one Michelin Star in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland.

The achievement comes just three months after AngloThai opened its doors on 11 November 2024 in London’s Marylebone.

John’s inspiration at AngloThai is drawn from both his Thai and British heritage, with a tasting menu that adapts regularly with the seasons of the restaurant.

Located on Marylebone’s historic Seymour Place, AngloThai has a 44 cover ground-floor dining room with an open kitchen, and a private dining room called Baan (opening in early Spring) on the lower ground floor.

The interiors, designed by Thai-American designer May Redding, draw inspiration from Thailand’s contemporary design movement. Moonler, a furniture manufacturer in Chiang Mai that works with Indigenous Chamchuri wood, has created bespoke tabletops, chairs, and a four-metre dining table for Baan.

The chef’s selection menu offers six courses for lunch and nine courses for dinner, beginning with an assortment of snacks. Dishes include kohlrabi topped with candied carrot and toasted Duchess rapeseed and, a staple at AngloThai, Carlingford oysters dressed with sea buckthorn and fermented chilli.

On the dinner menu, available as a supplement during lunch, is the Brixham crab with Exmoor caviar and coconut ash cracker. Whole crabs are grilled over charcoal, with their white meat dressed in coconut cream and makrut lime, then topped with British caviar.

John said: “We are overjoyed and proud to be bestowed the honour of a Michelin star after a decade long journey to open our restaurant. This accolade wouldn’t be possible without the tireless work from our superstar team who strive for excellence each and every day. It’s such an exciting moment for Thai food in the UK and I personally owe so much to the generosity of the Thai community who inspire every aspect of AngloThai.”

Desiree added: “Words can’t describe how thrilled we are after receiving a Michelin star. It has been almost 10 years in the making, and the biggest thank you to our supporters, the producers, our families and most importantly, our partners, Jake and Marco for always believing in us. Our phenomenal team is instrumental in making AngloThai what it is today, and for that, we are eternally grateful.”
