D&D London to open new restaurant, café and bar in Birmingham
The 38-cover ground floor café and bar will be entered through a 28-cover outdoor terrace that will form part of the building’s street presence on Colmore Row
D&D London has revealed it is set to bring a new restaurant, café, bar and terrace to Birmingham.
Orelle will open at 103 Colmore Row, Birmingham’s tallest office building, in October 2022. The restaurant will offer 360-degree panoramic views across the city and beyond. The 24th floor space will comprise an 88-cover restaurant, 24-cover bar, and 12-cover private dining room.
Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, Orelle will serve a menu featuring both classic and modern French dishes. In London, D&D operates Coq d’Argent, Orrery and Le Pont de la Tour with it adding that Orelle will “therefore represent D&D’s return to French cooking”. The small but “beautifully designed” bar will offer both classic and innovative cocktails.
The 38-cover ground floor café and bar will be entered through a 28-cover outdoor terrace that will form part of the building’s street presence on Colmore Row. The all-day café will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, followed by a bar menu in the evenings.
The 26-storey building and Orelle’s interior have been designed by architects Doone Silver Kerr. D&D said the restaurant design has been “strongly influenced” by the site’s banking history and incorporates veined marble floors, oak and walnut timbers and wall panelling.
The ground floor café space will also feature the original 1970s cast aluminium banking hall doors, designed and made by English abstract artist Henry Haig.
Des Gunewardena, chairman and CEO of D&D London, said: “Orelle will be D&D London’s debut in Birmingham and has been many years in the making. The interior and views will really be something special. I think guests will experience a sharp excited intake of breath when they first enter the space, as we did.
“We hope Orelle can do justice to what is a jewel of a site. We are very aware of Birmingham’s high quality and varied food scene. We hope Orelle will bring something new and exciting to that scene and in time become an established part of it.”
