Ed Baines’ ‘Randell and Aubin’ restaurant for sale

TV chef Ed Baines’ ‘Randell and Aubin’ restaurant in Manchester has been listed for sale with a lease price of £80,000 per year.

The seafood restaurant was opened in late 2017 in an attempt to replicate the success of Randell and Aubin’s Soho branch which has been a staple of the area since 1996.

Randel and Aubin Manchester saw accumulated losses of £669,000 despite a turnover of £1.4m, leading to the appointment of CFS Restructuring to oversee the restaurant’s sale. CFS Restructuring expects to see the restaurant sold early next week, with the new operator running under the same name. Randell and Albin Soho will be unaffected by the sale.

Baines said: “The current operator is not in a position to continue trading as he is, in year one they have built some considerable debts and have found themselves in a position that’s unsustainable to carry on. It’s a large site and as a seafood restaurant specialising in wild food it is notoriously hard to find quality suppliers so there were massive early costs with logistics.

“Randall and Aubin has now developed supply links to be able to source those products within Manchester.”

The restaurant’s new operator has been invited into the kitchen this week to ensure a smooth hand over. The new operator will keep the restaurant’s 35-strong team in place.
