Hawksmoor to open first Dublin steakhouse

Steak restaurant group, Hawksmoor, has announced plans to launch its first restaurant in Dublin which will be open in spring 2023, subject to planning.

This marks Hawksmoor’s second international opening, the first being in New York last September. Founders Will Beckett and Huw Gott said they hope to repeat this success at the new Dublin site next year, which will be located at 34 College Green, Dublin 2.

The new site will restore original features of the building, including the banking hall’s 40-feet cast-iron dome and ornate plasterwork, and reinstate elements like cast iron railings similar to those originally installed in the 1880s.

Hawksmoor has grown to a group of 10 restaurants, having first opened in 2006. The restaurants serve steaks from traditionally-reared cattle and sustainably sourced seafood, alongside cocktails.

The company has also recently become carbon neutral, with plans to be Net Zero by 2030, and is currently building an Irish supply chain for Hawksmoor Dublin.

With a focus on sustainability, charity and local sourcing, Hawksmoor collaborates with local farmers and fishermen, as well as local, national and international charities fighting food poverty.

Will Beckett, co-founder, said: “When we saw the former National Irish Bank on College Green we fell in love. It’s only taken us 16 years to finally get from London to Dublin, but we can’t wait to open Hawksmoor in what we think is one of the most hospitable cities in the world.”

Huw Gott, co-founder, added: “A lot of time and thought have gone into this design for Hawksmoor Dublin, as we’re hoping to celebrate the original fabric of the National Irish Bank building by restoring original features.

“Our goal is to restore it to its former glory, enhance features that have been shielded from public view in recent decades, and enable as many people as possible to enjoy this beautiful historic building.”
