Kricket to launch fifth London site in Shoreditch

The duo founded Kricket in 2015 as a pop-up in a shipping container at Pop Brixton

Modern-Indian restaurant group Kricket has confirmed plans to launch its fifth site in late 2024.

Its second opening this year, co-founders Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby will open a 120-cover all day restaurant and bar in Shoreditch.

The duo founded Kricket in 2015 as a pop-up in a shipping container at Pop Brixton.

The pair then opened their first permanent site in Soho in 2016 which was quickly followed by the relocation of the Brixton pop-up to its current home on Atlantic Road (2017) and the launch of a new site in West London’s regenerated BBC Television Centre in White City (2018).

Kricket Canary Wharf opened on 2 September 2023 and as part of the opening, the co-founders have brought their minimalist speakeasy concept, Soma, which first launched in Soho in September 2021.

SOMA 2.0 will adjoin Kricket Canary Wharf, with room for up to 50 guests and a licence to open late.

As with previous openings, Campbell and Bowly are working on an all new and distinct offering and setting for Kricket Shoreditch that aligns both with the site and space, as well as the local area.

While Canary Wharf features an all new Sunday offering as well as a late night menu Thursday to Saturday, the Shoreditch location will feature Kricket’s first and only private dining room – suitable for up to 18 guests.

Campbell said: “Kricket Shoreditch represents another step in the evolution of our brand. From menus to design, each location must offer something unique beyond just being a place to eat.

“There has been plenty of hard work and R&D behind the scenes, including a trip to India with the team. We are delighted that these flavours and experiences are now coming to fruition in the form of two additional restaurant spaces in arguably two of London’s hottest restaurant destinations.”

He added: “In many respects it’s surreal how far we are from our humble beginnings in a shipping container in Pop Brixton. For us, it’s important to keep moving and stay current. We are keen to expand organically both at home and abroad.”
