Polish restaurant Jan closes a month after opening
Chef Damian Wawrzyniak’s Jan Restaurant in Clapham has closed due to “disagreement over a rent review”.
The restaurant had only been open for a month with the premises’ previous owners blamed for “outstanding debts/problems” which Wawrzyniak says he was not made aware of.
Dear all with great sadness I must admit I have just been advised that previous owners of JAN Restaurant have outstanding debts/problems which I was not aware of.
I am not legally linked to previous operations and I will hold my work at JAN until further notice.

Wawrzyniak described the rent review as “a total surprise and disappointment” adding that the restaurant was fully booked up to September.
The chef is now expected to direct attention to his Cambridge restaurant House of Feasts, however he has not ruled out a reopening for Jan.
Wawrzyniak is well known for recent television appearances alongside Mary Berry on Mary Berry Easter Feast along with working at two-Michelin star restaurant Noma, regarded by many as the best restaurant in the world.
