Sicilian restaurant to open in Hyatt Place London City East hotel

The Sicilian Kitchen & Bar will take inspiration from the region in Italy while celebrating local London suppliers.

Zoom East Kitchen and Bar is set to open at Hyatt Place London City East hotel in Whitechapel, London on the 13 June.  

The Zoom East interiors will “celebrate the charm of Italian hospitality” with art laden walls and contemporary botanical spaces created by Elizabeth Marsh Floral Design. Zoom East is located in the 280-room Hyatt Place London City East and will seat 60 restaurant guests. 

The Sicilian Kitchen and Bar will take inspiration from the region in Italy while celebrating local London suppliers and will feature British charcuterie from Cobble Lane Cured, vegan cheeses from La Fauxmagerie and Sicilian ingredients from Gastronomica.

Head chef Vittorio Meli, who grew up in Sicily, will bring Italian traditions to Zoom East. He has worked as head chef at restaurants including Venetian restaurant Polpo Soho and Senor Ceviche the Peruvian Restaurant, and recently as executive sous at the Strand Palace hotel.

The menu will feature small plates and a selection of dishes from the deli bar. It will be working with Billingsgate Market, using its fish main courses including Grilled Octopus with preserved lemon sauce, monk’s beard and crispy chickpeas and Guazzetto di Pesce; a soup of Cornish hake, olives, potato and capers. 

It will also have vegetable based dishes which are a staple of Sicilian cuisine, including Spaghetti Involtini (baked spaghetti with tomato sauce rolled into fried aubergines), a Mixed grill of courgettes and a classic Aeolian Salad. 

A selection of pizzas and pasta dishes will include Spaghetti al nero di seppia and Pizza Sfiziosa with figs, prosciutto, burrata and rocket.
