Stew & Oyster moves into Malton’s Town Hall

The Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate has confirmed the Stew & Oyster brand have signed a new lease of the former Malton Town Hall.

Malton is the sixth and latest site for the Stew & Oyster team, who plan to open in April 2019. The bar and restaurant will serve regional craft beers and ales, alongside a “simple casual” dining menu, all from Malton’s Market Place, the historic Town Hall.

The Grade II listed building has benefitted from an investment of £380,000 in its restoration by the Fitzwilliam Estate. The property has been sensitively renovated with many of its original features restored by local craftsmen, retaining the character and heritage of the building.

Stew & Oyster have built its portfolio of well established eateries by searching out historical properties and renovating them. The restaurant group’s style is “modern, contemporary aesthetic”, using casual furnishings combined with key focal points of the buildings, such as exposed stone work. Since 2009, the Yorkshire-based firm has seen success with its first site Calls Landing in Leeds, and now boasts a total of five establishments across the county.

Helen Barry, estate manager for the Fitzwilliam Estate, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to attract Stew & Oyster to come to Malton and we’re very impressed with their approach to jointly undertaking this significant renovation of our flagship building in the Market Place. We are very much looking forward to seeing this lovely building come alive, for residents and visitors during the day and into the evening, and welcoming Stew & Oyster to the town.”

The Fitzwilliam Estate were advised by leisure property specialist Fleurets in the marketing of the property.
