The Corner House Canterbury opens garden dining space
Chef owner Matt Sworder’s second restaurant, which he opened in 2017, opened its new garden dining space that will bring up to 80 covers more, as well as provide space for larger events

The Corner House in Canterbury has launched its new garden dining space this month, adding an additional 26 covers to the restaurant.
The venue also has five guest rooms, which includes a continental breakfast tray that consists of homemade granola, yoghurt and homemade berry compote, fresh fruit, fresh milk, and orange juice.
The venue is chef-owner Matt Sworder’s second restaurant, which he opened in 2017. Sworder has previously worked in London’s top restaurants, including Bistro Union under Adam Byatt and Les Deux Salons with Anthony Demetre before opening his first restaurant in Minster in 2013.
Sworder closed his first restaurant last month and made the decision to move his team to the Canterbury restaurant. The new extension brings the restaurant up to 80 covers more, as well as provides space for larger events.
It added that relocating staff to a single venue allows for a seven-day operation and all day trading with drinks served from 10am and food served from midday to 9pm.
Sworder said: “It was disappointing to close my first restaurant site, but the extension at Canterbury heralds a new era for The Corner House. Its location brings so many exciting opportunities and enables us to grow the business strategically during a challenging period for hospitality.
“The new Canterbury restaurant is a beautiful space that gives the sense of bringing the outdoors in. I’m absolutely delighted with the design and can’t wait to welcome our wonderful guests.”
