The Old Deanery to rebrand as restaurant with rooms

The site was taken over by family-owned Layton Hill Hotels in late 2021 and has been operating as an exclusive use wedding and events venue for two seasons

The Old Deanery in Ripon has announced plans to rebrand as a restaurant with rooms from November 2023.

Alongside the restaurant, the team will also be re-opening the bedrooms, which can be
taken on a dinner, bed, and breakfast basis.

As a result of the plans the venue has appointed Adam Jackson as head chef.

Jackson was head chef at the Black Swan at Oldstead, where he helped win its first Michelin star in 2012.

He then set up his own restaurant, the Park in Marmadukes Townhouse hotel which gained three AA rosettes.

The site was taken over by family-owned Layton Hill Hotels in late 2021 and has been operating as an exclusive use wedding and events venue for two seasons.

Rebecca Layton, director, said: “Since we took over in 2021 we have always had the appetite to further open up The Old Deanery to the public, but due to the lingering effects of the challenging recent years, we took a cautious approach and started as an exclusive use wedding and events venue, allowing us to carefully control both income and costs.

“Now that we are more established, we are taking the next steps and cannot wait to open the restaurant and bedrooms in-between the existing wedding bookings. We want to be Yorkshire’s newest restaurant destination! Dining at The Old Deanery will be an immersive experience, and you will move through the building as you dine. Arrive into the cosy welcome lounge for pre-dinner drinks; chat, get comfortable, and relax.”

She added: “Move through to the bar where you can watch some of the chefs work before they invite you to take your first course: The main event will take place in the restaurant, but forget white tablecloths and stilted service; the food may be formal but the atmosphere will not be! Finally, you can retire after dinner to a cosy chair and enjoy a coffee and treats.”
