UK pubs and bars saw a 7% source in average drinks sales in the week ending 4 November, driven by Halloween, Bonfire Night, and major sporting events. This performance, the best since September, follows a flat second half of October due to adverse weather. All drink categories, including cider, beer, soft drinks, wine, and spirits, witnessed year-on-year growth during the week. Jonathan Jones, managing director of CGA by NIQ, sees this as a positive sign for the Christmas season.

General Atlantic has agreed to acquire Joe and the Juice from Valedo Partners. The global investor, which initially invested in Joe and the Juice in 2016, will become the majority control shareholder upon completion of the transaction. Since the 2016 investment, Joe and the Juice has expanded its store count to over 360 globally and achieved substantial revenue growth. General Atlantic plans to leverage its expanded partnership to drive global growth and extend digital distribution channels.

Owner of West African restaurant Akoko in Fitzrovia, Aji Akokomi, has opened a new venue called Akara in Borough Yards. The 40-seat restaurant features contemporary design with the building’s original features, exposed brick walls, a standalone six-seater bar, and a mezzanine-level private dining room. The menu includes a variety of crispy savoury Akara fritters with different fillings, barbecue plates, and sides, while the cocktail menu offers both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
