UKH has been ‘encouraged’ by news that job vacancies have fallen by 35,000 within 2023, according to new figures from the ONS. While current vacancies still remain “far higher” than pre-pandemic levels, UKH believes reforms to the apprenticeships levy and addressing the cost burden for employers can ensure vacancies continue to fall.

Mitchells and Butlers reported a strong Q1 as like-for-like sales grew 7.7%, with total sales growing 9.7% for the 15 weeks ended 13 January 2024. Meanwhile, the group’s food and drinks sales increased 8.7% and 6.6% respectively.

NTIA accused the government of “systematically” closing nightlife, following the news of the Rekom Group calling in administrators. Rekom, which owns the Atik and Pryzm brands, said any restructure of the business could see some of its well-known nightclubs shut for good.
