Marston’s has appointed Justin Platt as the new CEO, effective 10 January 2024, following Andrew Andrea’s immediate departure. Andrea, who steered the company through the pandemic and economic challenges, will assist in a smooth transition. Platt, previously chief strategy officer at Merlin Entertainment, brings over 30 years of consumer-facing business experience. Marston’s chair, William Rucker, will oversee the interim period. Platt looks forward to harnessing Marston’s potential for sustainable growth.

Shepherd Neame has acquired The Ship Inn in Herne Bay, expanding its estate to 296 pubs and hotels. The historic seafront pub, once a smugglers’ haunt, dates back to 1385 and was acquired from the Stonegate Group. The pub will continue under the management of current licensees Alan and Michele Clarke, who also run the Chestfield Barn, another Shepherd Neame pub.

Hydes Brewery has appointed Tom Allkins as the new laboratory manager, continuing its 160-year brewing legacy. Allkins, mentored by company veteran Adam Hyde, celebrated at the grand opening of The Harry Beswick, Hydes’ first new pub in five years. Acquiring the former police station in Heswall, Wirral, marked the brewery’s return to property investment since 2018. Allkins and fellow brewer Tom Rostron, both apprenticeship graduates, signify the brewery’s future.

Roti King will be expanding to its third venue, set to open on 1 December in Waterloo. Retaining original interiors, the 50-seater space preserves the building’s history, offering a view of the chefs at work in the open kitchen. As with its sister sites, the restaurant will cater to walk-ins, while also providing takeaway and delivery services at this new location. Head chef and founder Sugen Gopal expresses excitement at sharing authentic Malaysian cuisine, specifically highlighting their renowned Roti Canai, in a prime spot south of the river Thames.
