Today’s news in brief – 23/02/24

Tortilla appointed Andy Naylor as its new CEO, as Richard Morris will be stepping down at the end of March. Naylor, who has worked alongside Morris for the last seven years, initially joined as CFO and most recently was UK managing director. Meanwhile, Maria Denny has joined the business this month as chief financial officer. 

UKH welcomes the proposed tipping code of practice, saying it “rightly enables businesses to reflect the circumstances in which they operate, without being too prescriptive and burdensome”. The government legislated in May 2023 to introduce the Tipping Act, which sets out how tips, gratuities and service charges are processed. The legislation is due to come into effect from 1st July 2024 and affects all businesses where tips are non-incidental.

A new rooftop restaurant, TT, is set to open on 22 March in London. Led by ex-Oren head chef, Sam Lone, fire-cooked seasonal produce is the focus, with smoking, pickling and baking featuring heavily across the sharing menu. Food will be served across two floors in the newly-renovated rooftop and bright, brand new ground floor restaurant both for lunchtime and dinner.
